Learning outcomes General objective: this CU aims to complement, deepen and broaden some socio-cultural content explored in other UCs in the Spanish area of studies,
developing awareness and intercultural competence.
Specific learning outcomes:
-Know and critically analyse some dynamics and cultural practices throughout history in the space that today conforms Spain.
-Know and synthesise the facts, the artistic-cultural manifestations and the most prominent figures of the analysed historical periods.
-Consistently argue about one or more of the analysed aspects of the socio-cultural and artistic panorama of Spain, past and present.
-Relate and compare sociocultural elements of the Iberian space.
-Demonstrate intercultural awareness and intercultural competence.
Syllabus 1. Delimitation and definition of the object of study. Questioning the concepts of “culture” and “Spanish”. Cultural/national identity as construction.
Political-administrative configuration of the current Spanish State, languages and cultures in Spain today.
2. Brief sociocultural and artistic history of Spain, from the pre-Roman peoples to the 21st century, within the framework of the relationships between the
different spaces of the Iberian Peninsula.
3. 'Daily' society and culture in Spain today.
3.1. Personal and social relationships, body language and gestures, social conventions, values, beliefs and attitudes, ritual behaviour, traditions.
3.2. Mirrors of contemporary Spanish reality in artistic and audio-visual culture: cinema, music and other artistic-cultural manifestations.
Main Bibliography All materials needed to attend the CU (audiovisual resources, complementary readings, etc.) will be provided through the Moodle platform.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Teaching Methodologies:
Lectures, using audiovisual materials and permanent teacher-student interaction; practical classes, intended for the discussion/sharing of readings carried out
individually or for the oral presentation and subsequent comment on the works carried out by the students.
Assessment criteria:
Continuous assessment --> Performing oral presentations throughout the semester: 40% of the final grade; final written test: 60% of the final grade.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
