Learning outcomes -To know the external changes that have affected the development of the Spanish language. Historical and social factors.
-To know the internal changes of the language, from Latin to the present day. Evolution of the vowel and consonant, morphological, syntactic and semantic
system.
-To know the particularities that place the Spanish language in the group of Romance languages.
-To have the ability to recognize basic phenomena of the language of certain periods.
-To have the ability to relate these phenomena with those of the Portuguese language.
-To have the ability to recognize simple texts from any step.
Syllabus 1. External history (Roman Empire to the present)
1.1. Roman Empire (S. II – S. V)
1.2. Germanic invasions. Visigoth period (S.V – S. VIII)
1.3. Arab invasions (S. VIII)
1.4. Formation of peninsular kingdoms (S. VIII – S. XV)
1.5. Spanish Empire (S. XVI – S. XIX)
1.6. Current Spain (S. XX – S. XXI)
2. Internal History (Classical Latin > Vulgar Latin > Castilian Romance > Classical Spanish > Current Spanish)
3. Characterization (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics) of the language in the next 5 phases.
3.1. The Romanization. Classical / Vulgar Latin.
3.2. Visigothic period. Castilian pre-romance.
3.3. Middle Ages. Castilian romance. Norma Alfonsi.
3.4. Modern age. Classic Spanish. Baroque and Age of Enlightenment.
3.5. Contemporary age. Current Spanish. Recent trends and ongoing evolutionary phenomena.
