Learning outcomes 1. Master the concepts of literary institution, canon and literary marginality;
2. Identify and characterize the various types of marginal texts;
3. Explain the marginalization of some oral and written texts;
4. Explain the reasons behind the recent process of recognition of some literary forms previously margined;
5. Analyze texts of oral tradition and marginal literature of written record;
6. Recognize the educational and ethical potential of margin of literature;
7. Develop questions and a work with scientific rigor on the subject of oral and written margined literature.
Syllabus 1. Literary institution, literary canon and literary marginality’s concepts.
2. Grimms Brothers, Propp and Jolles: milestones in the valorization of traditional oral literature.
3. Simple and complex forms of oral literature: typological distinction, function and common structures.
4. Genres of margined written literature: distinction and typological characterization. Highlighting some genres in the path of the institutional recognition.
4.1. Folk tale and children's short story: distinction. Comparativist study of "Little Red Riding Hood" and "A Fada Oriana," of Sophia de Mello Breyner.
4.2. Literary crime fiction. Pioneering work of Poe and Conan Doyle.
4.3. Science fiction. Pioneering work of Jules Verne.
4.4. Fantastic contemporary novel: Tolkien as a milestone.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The methodology involves in the two thirds of the semester theoretical and practical content of exposure classes discussed critically in group from theoretical
or literary texts provided by the teacher or that the teacher suggests that students bring to class. The teacher while provides the sylalbus see wich are the
points of more interest. In the last part of the semester, students, having chosen the topics to deepen in their monographs, are accompanied by tutorial form in
class, having an open discussion among all the work in progress.
The evaluation covers a test with developping questions, quoted for 8 values, and an individual monograph, quoted for 7 values, and its oral presentation,
evaluated for 3 values. However, it has taken into account for the final result the attendance and active and relevant participation of the student during the
semester ( 2 values). These evaluative aspects are discussed in the beginning of the semester.
