Learning outcomes	1. Demonstrate knowledge that manifests a multicultural vision of the literary phenomenon, going beyond the criterion of national borders. 2. Reveal the ability to problematize concepts such as "canon", "lusophony", "Portuguese literature", "Hispanism", "Spanish literature(s)", "Iberian studies", " European literature" and "World literature" . 3. Show mastery of specific themes related to the study of Portuguese and Spanish comparative literature.
Syllabus	1. Originality of comparative literature. 2. Roots of the comparatist project: Greece and Rome; Enlightenment and Romanticism. 3. Comparative literature and national literatures. 4. The literary canon. 5. Iberian cultures and literatures in the context of European and World literature: some fundamental problems. 6. International relations of Galician-Portuguese lyric poetry. 7. The case of Gil Vicente: one author, two countries. 8. Camões and Spain. 9. Cervantes and Portugal. 10. A seventeenth-century bilingual author: D. Francisco Manuel de Melo. 11. The 19th century: meetings and disagreements of Iberian literatures. 12. From the 20th century to the present: a) Pessoa's Iberism; b) The case of Ramón Gómez de la Serna; c) Proposals by Almada Negreiros; d) "Poemas Ibéricos", by Miguel Torga; e) The journey of José Saramago.
