Learning outcomes Within the Curricular Unit, students should be able to 1) identify the specific characteristics of different genres and text types; 2) demonstrate knowledge of different linguistic theories about discourse; 3) reveal the ability to produce and receive texts of diverse typological nature; and 4) critically analyze textual productions of different genres and typologies.

2. Discourse Analysis as a multidisciplinary linguistic area.
3. Notion of text, discourse, context, cotext, intertextuality, and interdiscursivity.
4. Essentials of Textual Linguistics: textual typologies and genres.
5. Lexicon, syntax, semantics, and discourse.
6. Linguistic theories and approaches to discourse: pragmatics and speech act theory.
7. Critical Discourse Analysis and ideological formation.
8. Discourse, society, and culture: different discursive typologies.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The different programmatic contents will be addressed in class. Discussion sessions of articles and other texts dedicated to the theoretical scope of the UC are also carried out, which require prior reading. In parallel, texts of different typologies and discursive genres are analyzed, in which different linguistic-discursive strategies are sought to be recognized.
Assessment will result from the completion of the following tests:
- First class question: written exercise proposing the critical analysis of a textual production – April 24, 2026 (5 points)
- Second class question: written exercise proposing the critical analysis of a textual production – May 8, 2026 (5 points)
- Written test – May 22, 2026 (10 points)
