Elaborate a practical assignment about an author and a relevant work of Portuguese Culture; 4. Demonstrate oral presentation skills;
Syllabus	1) The issues of Historiography, especially the usefulness of History and the concepts of Culture and Civilization. 2) The Portuguese Identity: unity and diversity. 3) The first spaces and manifestations of Portuguese literate and artistic culture. 4) Dimensions of the Renaissance: Humanism and Erasmism in Portugal; the Discoveries and Renaissance Culture; Travel Literature; Gil Vicente and Luís de Camões; 5) The Protestant Reformation and the Counter-Reformation in Portugal. 6) D. Sebastião and Sebastianism. 7) Padre António Vieira and the “Fifth Empire”. 8) Pombalism, Enlightenment and Encyclopedism. 9) Liberalism and Romanticism in Portugal. 10) The new proposals of the Generation of 70. 11) Republicanism. 12) Modernism and other avant-gardes. 13) The culture of the "politics of the spirit" in Estado Novo. 14) The culture of opposition. 15) Globalization and the portuguese economy, society and culture.
