Within the Curricular Unit, students should be able to: 1) identify the specific characteristics of different genres and text types; 2) demonstrate knowledge of different linguistic theories about discourse; 3) reveal the ability to produce and receive texts of diverse typological nature; and 4) critically analyze textual productions of different genres and typologies.

1. Essentials of Linguistics: language and speech. 2. Discourse Analysis as a multidisciplinary linguistic area. 3. Notion of text, discourse, context, cotext, intertextuality, and interdiscursivity. 4. Essentials of Textual Linguistics: textual typologies and genres. 5. Lexicon, syntax, semantics, and discourse. 6. Linguistic theories and approaches to discourse: pragmatics and speech act theory. 7. Critical Discourse Analysis and ideological formation.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
Lessons assume an expository character on the different points that constitute the syllabus. It is are also held sessions to discuss articles and other texts dedicated to the theoretical scope of the UC, which require prior reading. At the same time, texts of different typologies and discursive genres are analysed, with the aim to lead students to recognize different linguistic-discursive strategies. Assessment will result from the completion of the following tests: - First class question: written exercise proposing the critical analysis of a textual production – April 24, 2026 (5 points) - Second class question: written exercise proposing the critical analysis of a textual production – May 8, 2026 (5 points) - Written test – May 22, 2026 (10 points)
