Learning outcomes At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
a. Analyze the specificities of sports preparation in the training and specialization stages;
b. Discuss the multi-disciplinary structure for the development of excellence in sport, recognizing the factual framework of sports
performance and in particular the sport in which they are involved;
c. Understand the theoretical and empirical basis of long-term sports development models, as well as their main operational characteristics;
d. Develop a long-term sports preparation and development program for the sport in which you are involved.
Syllabus 1. Theoretical and conceptual assumptions about sports training with children and young people and readiness for sport
1.1 The characteristics of the young athlete and their implications for training reorganization
1.2 Trends in sports training with children and young people
1.3 Introduction to the study of sporting excellence
1.4. Some reasons for the ineffectiveness of measures to identify and develop athletic potential
2. Disciplinary perspectives on the development of excellence in sport

3. Long-term sports development models
3.1 Beginning of practice, age at which the best marks are obtained and the respective progression of sporting performance

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The evaluation is periodic (AP), based on the general UBI evaluation rules, and includes:
1 - Group work on the content 4 – 30%
2 - A frequency on contents 1, 2 and 3 – 50%
3 - A summary essay on the topic covered by a guest professor – 10%
4 - Active participation in class tasks (discussion of problems) - 10%
Final grade = Weighted average evaluations
If final grade < 10, Fail
