Learning outcomes The course aims to provide introductory knowledge of Law as a normative order, in order to equip students with basic legal skills to understand, interpret and apply Law in its various branches.

The study prioritizes the use of practical examples and case studies to apply the theoretical material.
Syllabus 1. Law and Society.

2. Law:
a. Concept and values ??pursued by Law;

b. Characteristics of Law;

c. Branches of Law.

3. Political-Legal System.

4. Legal Norm:
a. Concept, characteristics, and classification of norms;

5. Sources of Law.

6. The Law:
a. Law-making process;

b. Unconstitutionality and illegality;

c. Application in time and space;

d. Interpretation and filling of gaps.

7. The Legal Relationship:
a. Notion, structure, and elements (subjects, object, legal fact, and guarantee);

b. Legal Transactions in particular.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Assessment:

1. By Attendance:
• Attendance and participation will be valued.

• 15% of assignments/practical cases indicated in class for individual resolution.

• 85% of written test, lasting two hours and with consultation of legislation.

- To pass the course by attendance, the test grade must be equal to or greater than 9.5.

- Students who score between 6.00 and 9.40 on the test will be admitted to a second test, lasting one hour, intended solely to obtain the 9.50 required for passing the course by attendance.

- The second test cannot be used to improve grades.

2. By Examination: 100% written examination.

There is no minimum grade for the examination.

Non-attendance of the course implies non-admission to the examination. (except for students with special status)

3. Grade Improvement: by examination.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
