1. Machiavelli (1469-1527): Political (Science), virtue, and power. 2. Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679): Contractualism, sovereignty, representation. 3. Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778): Social contract, popular sovereignty, and general will. 4. John Stuart Mill (1806-1873): Democracy and freedom of expression. 5. Oswald Spengler (1880-1936): The decline of the West. 6. Totalitarianism: The 20th century and the rise of totalitarianism. 7. Walter Lippmann (1889-1974): Public opinion and the manufacture of consent. 8. Francis Fukuyama (1952-): The "End of History" and the alleged death of ideology. 9. Demagoguery and populism: The reality of political tensions in the first decades of the 21st century. 10. Algorithms and "echo chambers": Public opinion and polarization in the age of social media.
