To discuss the importance of education as a social organisation;
To look at current education policies in the light of globalisation, transnationalisation and territorialisation/municipalisation policies;
To reflect on the application of educational policies and practices in national and local contexts;
To interpret the legal framework that regulates the current Portuguese education system;
To analyse relevant research in the field of Educational Policies and Educational Organisation.

Syllabus |
1. Introductory Issues: Education and Society. The centrality of school education in contemporary societies. The future of the school as a
public good;
2. Concept of Education Policy; Meaning, framework and approaches; Horizon of current education policies: Globalisation and Transnationalisation of Education; European and World Education Policies: Guidelines and actors;
3. Organisation of the current Portuguese education system. Structuring documents (LBSE, PASEO, ENEC, AE); School autonomy and building educational communities: school or cluster management bodies and guiding documents. The involvement of parents and students. The student statute and school ethics; Curriculum flexibility and management; Inclusive education. Evaluation of schools and school clusters.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
The competences acquired by the students will be assessed through:
1. Answering questions on the first two points of the programme (between 20%/25% + 20%/25%) in class (individual).
2. Presentation on one of the themes listed in the third point of the programme, involving analysis of research and its application to the interpretation of the concrete experience of schools (50% to 60%) (done in groups).
