To discuss the importance of education as a social organisation; To look at current education policies in the light of globalisation, transnationalisation and territorialisation/municipalisation policies; To reflect on the application of educational policies and practices in national and local contexts; To interpret the legal framework that regulates the current Portuguese education system; To analyse relevant research in the field of Educational Policies and Educational Organisation. To express ideas in a reasoned manner, using oral and written communication; To deepen research skills; To develop collaborative working skills; To commit to quality education.

Syllabus |
1. Introductory Issues: Education and Society. The centrality of school education in contemporary societies. The future of the school as a public good; 2. Concept of Education Policy; Meaning, framework and approaches; Horizon of current education policies: Globalisation and Transnationalisation of Education; European and World Education Policies: Guidelines and actors; 3. Organisation of the current Portuguese education system. Structuring documents (LBSE, PASEO, ENEC, AE); School autonomy and building educational communities: school or cluster management bodies and guiding documents. The involvement of parents and students. The student statute and school ethics; Curriculum flexibility and management; Inclusive education. Evaluation of schools and school clusters.
