Syllabus 1. Introductory issues: Education and Society. The centrality of school education in contemporary societies. The future of schools as a public good.

2. Concept of Educational Policy; Meaning, framework, and approaches; Outlook for current educational policies: Globalization and Transnationalization of Education; European and Global Educational Policies: Guidelines and actors.

3. Organization of the current Portuguese education system. Structural documents (LBSE, PASEO, ENEC, AE); School autonomy and the construction of educational communities: school or group administration bodies and guiding documents. The involvement of parents and students. Student status and school ethics; Flexibility and curriculum management; Inclusive education. Evaluation of schools and school clusters.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Teaching and learning methodologies: this course will include theoretical and practical sessions, combining lectures with teaching practices that promote independent work and active student participation in the teaching-learning-assessment process.
The assessment of the skills acquired by students will be carried out through:
1. Individual Assessment (50%) – Interview Summary
The individual assignment consists of a critical summary of the interview conducted with an expert in the field of educational policy. Students must present a structured and reasoned analysis of the main topics covered in the interview, reflecting on the issues discussed and linking them to the theoretical content covered in the course unit.
2. Group Assessment (50%) – Collaborative Work
The group assessment will be based on the development of a collaborative work consisting of 5 challenges in the classroom (10% each).
