Learning outcomes |
Consolidate and give new knowledge on design and properties of traditional and non-traditional bituminous mixtures, namely recycled mixtures, modified asphalt mixtures with fibers, modified bitumen’s and adhesion promoters. Provide advanced training in the performance of bituminous mixtures, serving as a specialization for the development of research studies in this specific field and for the bituminous pavements design. The following skills will be developed in this course: a) Ability on concepts of durability and adhesiveness of bitumen b) Knowledge the influence of bitumen and aggregate properties on the performance of bituminous mixtures. c) Knowledge the influence of compaction and climatic actions on the performance of bituminous mixtures d) Ability on experimental study of bituminous mixtures performance

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
Assessment comprises two modalities: continuous assessment and final examination, with students exempt from the final exam if they achieve approval through continuous assessment. Continuous assessment consists of Written test (40% to 60%), covering theoretical and practical content; Practical assignments (40% to 60%), which include bibliographic research, problem-solving exercises, laboratory work, and/or a project focused on the performance study of bituminous mixtures; Active participation (0% to 10%) in class activities. This diversified approach enables monitoring of student progress throughout the semester, ensuring the acquisition of the intended competences: conceptual mastery, critical analysis skills, and aptitude for experimental work.
