Learning outcomes	This course unit aims to study comparative literature in the frame of the relations between the Portuguese and Spanish literary universes, that’s why the program develops the meaning of comparative literature and how it is exercised in the case of the relations between the two Iberian countries. In the final of the semester the student must be able to: 1. demonstrate knowledge of the "attitude" and the fundamental principles of the study carried out in comparative literature. 2. show master knowledge of specific issues related to the study of Portuguese and Spanish comparative literature. 3. demonstrate the ability to carry out research work in this area.
Syllabus	1. Comparative literature: its historical roots, its originality and the new attitude that implies. 2. A "comparative" vision of the world literature history: some examples of various times and places. 3. “Concrete” comparative literature or study of contact relations, and “abstract” comparative literature: some research works. 4. Visibility and invisibility of Portuguese and Spanish comparative literature. One case: the project RELIPES. 5. Some authors of fundamental research made in this area. 6. Literary relations between Spain and Portugal in the fields of poetry, narrative and theater: some examples. 7. A preliminary discussion about scientific research.
