Learning outcomes |
This Curricular Unit aims to deepen students' knowledge of the cells that make up blood, integrating theoretical concepts and experimental and clinical case approaches. At the end of this Course Unit the student should be able to: 1. Describe and relate biochemical aspects in the Hematopoiesis process. 2. Identify the main changes that may occur in the hematopoiesis process. 3. Describe the main stages of normal blood cell hematopoiesis. 4. Acquire the basic skills to work in an experimental laboratory within the scope of Hematology. 5. Describe the biological processes that lead to the abnormal development of blood cell populations. 6. Correlate to changes that occur in hematopoiesis with different clinical situations. 7. Integrate theoretical and practical knowledge in solving type problems - discussion of clinical cases.

1. Blood and General Hematopoiesis - different types of anemias and their pathophysiological characteristics and associated biochemical aspects 2. Hemoglobin synthesis 3. Thrombopoiesis. 4. Phases of hematopoiesis / erythropoiesis. 5. Granulopoiesis, Monopoiesis and benign changes in these strains. 6. Lymphopoiesis - monopoiesis and benign and malignant changes of the various lineages. 7. leukemias and lymphomas 8. Hemostasis process: coagulation and fibrinolysis. 9. Transplantation and blood transfusion. 10. Basic laboratory concepts in Hematology. 11. Laboratory methods and techniques applied to the study of Hematopoiesis.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
The student acquires the proposed skills through theoretical classes and practical theoretical classes by videoconference, of a dynamic nature in order to interact both in the interpretation of contents, resolution of practical cases, as well as the entire process of interpreting laboratory results. apply appropriate photographs will be shown especially with regard to microscopic observations.
Classification 70% Theoretical (T), and 30% Theoretical-Practical (TP). The TP evaluation, includes the realization of works carried out during the TP classes, proposed for evaluation (10%) and the elaboration and discussion of a monograph on the theme. previously selected and / or presentation and discussion of a scientific article. (20%). The minimum grade for approval is 9.5 values. The criterion for admission to the final exam, consists of having previous approval in the TP assessment, of 9, 5 values.
