The Math Department is part of the Faculty of Sciences of University da Beira Interior (UBI). This Department has existed since the creation of UBI and is understood as a fundamental support for its assertion as a University of reference in the context of the Portuguese public system of higher education.
With regard to teaching, the Math Department’s teachers are responsible for teaching in their own courses, as well as other Mathematics scientific subjects in all other UBI courses.
Throughout its existence, the UBI Math Department has formed hundreds of math teachers of basic education and secondary education and has contributed to the UBI students’ mathematical formation in the areas of physics, chemistry, engineering, social and human sciences and health sciences.
Teachers in the Math Department have developed a scientific research action with increasing quality, reflected in the regular publication of scientific articles in some of the best international journals in the area. Together with the Centre for Mathematics and Applications of UBI, the Math Department promotes seminars and national and international scientific meetings.
Besides the teaching and research branches, the Math Department is mainly concerned about the scientific dissemination and also about the development of a strong connection to the community.
