Profile of the programme
The PhD course in Science and Engineering of Fibrous Materials aims to coach highly qualified and autonomous human resources, capable of contributing to the development of knowledge in fibrous materials, including polymers, carrying out fundamental or applied research, exploring emerging interfaces with electronics, biology and others. Thus, it aims to coach specialists, oriented both to the university environment and to the business environment, who promote competitiveness and innovation in the pulp, paper and packaging, textile and clothing sectors, and make contributions, based on fibrous materials, in areas of great socio-economic importance, such as transport, construction, health, agri-food, fashion and communication. |
Key learning outcomes
Doctoral knowledge, skills and competences: • Advanced knowledge in Science and Engineering of Fibrous Materials; • Ability to design and develop materials with innovative properties, combining the properties of organic and inorganic fibrous elements (including nanofibers) with the design of fibrous structures; • Ability to evaluate the properties and performance in specific applications of materials integrating nano/micro/organic fibres, including biopolymers and conductive polymers; • Argumentation based on the most current scientific knowledge; • Design, plan and carry out fundamental or applied research aimed at solving scientific and technological issues in an academic or industrial environment; • Integrate sustainability and social responsibility issues into the design, production and products end-of-life; • Proactive attitude in the transfer of knowledge to society, in innovation and in the socio-economic and environmental impacts of activities.
