Profile of the programme This 1st cycle aims to provide a solid foundation in various fields of psychology with a plan of studies that meets the requirements of the European Diploma in Psychology. It allows students to become familiar with major theories and procedures in psychology as well as to be knowledgeable of the scientific research in this area. This training, integrated with personal and interpersonal skills acquired through the course, will allow an informed choice and access to advanced training (2nd cycle) in a specific field of psychology. The prominent features of the teaching and learning methodologies are the implementation of active teaching and learning strategies, the use of new technologies and the possibility of participating in international programmes and research projects. A core element of this course is to prepare students for psychological “contexts” that increasingly require adaptability, innovation, information management, international research and experiences.
Key learning outcomes I. Basic Skills - Understanding constructs, processes and theoretical models of psychology; describing the main concepts, models and application/research areas in psychology; understanding the theoretical basis of psychological assessment and intervention; developing basic skills for planning and preparing research in psychology; analysing scientific information; communicating and producing scientific documents; understanding the ethical principles and dilemmas as well as the ethical standards of assessment, intervention and research in Psychology
II. Transversal skills - Researching, analysing, and summarising information; organising and planning the academic work; developing autonomy and effectiveness in managing learning tasks; communicating both orally and in writing in Portuguese and foreign language; using computer and laboratory resources; developing interpersonal skills; solving problems and making informed decisions; enhancing the ability to adapt to new situations creatively as well as to integrate and apply knowledge
Occupational profiles of graduates The 1st cycle of studies in psychology is the first stage of training for aspiring psychologists. This programme does not confer professional qualifications. Instead, it prepares students for more advanced/specialised training (2nd cycle) in a specific field of psychology allowing access to the profession of psychologist.
Learning facilities Access to scientific databases, wireless, e-content platform, classrooms with multimedia equipment, computer equipment, library, study rooms, video conferencing systems, psychology laboratory, materials / equipment / software for psychological assessment.
