Profile of the programme PhD in Chemistry has as main objective the training of human resources in order to develop capacity to carry out research autonomously in the scientific area of Chemistry.
The training received during the 3rd cycle of studies aims to prepare highly qualified professionals to perform research activities either in the university environment or in industrial companies where innovation and creation of new products are necessary.
Key learning outcomes At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- Conceive, design, adapt and carry out research work in the field of chemistry, in compliance with the requirements imposed by the standards of academic quality and integrity
- Perform a significant set of original research that has contributed to the expansion of the frontiers of knowledge, part of which will be presented in publications subject to scientific arbitration
- Critically analyse, evaluate and synthesize new and complex ideas
- Communicate with his peers, the academic community and society in the area in which he is specialized
- Promote, in academic or professional context, technological, social or cultural progress, in a knowledge-based society.

-Researcher in public or private institutions of I&D
-Professional in industrial enterprises of various branches, where the chemistry is involved in the development of new products.
Learning facilities The Chemistry Department is equipped for teaching and research activities in various branches of chemistry, in particular:
- Environmental Chemistry
- Chemistry of Natural Products
- Organic Synthesis
- Carbohydrates Chemistry
- Applied Electrochemistry
- Biotechnology
- Solution Chemistry
- Chemical Technology
In addition to the research labs, there are specific infrastructures, including Laboratories of Microscopy, Image Analysis and x-Ray.
There are other general infrastructures in the University such as:
-Central Library, where databases of journals and scientific conferences are also available and can be downloaded
- Computer Rooms (open 24 h)
- Networks service (internal and external)
- Continuous Internet access service (email, telnet and www).
