- Develop the capacity for autonomous practice of research leading to a doctoral dissertation to submit original and innovative results that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Sports Sciences;
- Provide students the capacity to respond with competence and professional manner, the challenges of the contemporary world, within both the academic and / or professional life, either active citizenship. |
Key learning outcomes

We defined the following competencies for the award of a Ph.D. degree in Sports Science at the University of Beira Interior:
- Demonstrate an ability to a systematic understanding of the areas of Sport Sciences and master models, methodologies and techniques related research to this area and respective specialties;
- Demonstrate an ability to conceive, design and carry out a significant and innovative research in Sport Sciences, respecting the requirements imposed by the standards of academic integrity;
- Undertake a significant amount of original research work, contributing to expand the frontier of knowledge in Sport Sciences, and which is recognized by the publication of the results of research in national and international peer-reviewed journals (defined by regulation of the course) ;
- Be able to critically analyze, evaluate, and synthesize new and complex ideas;
- Be able to communicate with their peers, the academic community and with society in general about their area of ??expertise;
- Demonstrate ability to integrate in different professional contexts and academic progress as promoters and holders of high specialization;
- Be able to, a knowledge based society, to promote the academic and / or professional context, progress in the areas of Sports Sciences;
The operationalization of the objectives and skills is done through the implementation of a first year curriculum, presentations and participation in seminars and a tutorial monitoring throughout the course. The degree of compliance is measured through assessment of each course, the regular reporting of progress, presentation and advocacy work at the end of the second year and public advocacy, and evaluation by an external jury of doctoral thesis
