The third cycle of studies that leads to the degree of Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and has as main goal the preparation of professionals who are equipped with skills of knowledge and systematic understanding in one branch or in one specialty of Pharmaceutical Sciences; professionals able to understand and apply the knowledge acquired in designing and conducting research in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences that can contribute to extend the frontiers of knowledge, part of which subjected to international recognition in publications subject to peer review; professionals able to analyze critically, to evaluate and synthetize new and complex ideas; professionals able to communicate with their peers, the academic community and society in general about the area that is specialized; professionals able to promote, in an academic context and / or vocational, the technological, social or cultural progress. |

Students should develop skills related to: - Methods of research associated with the Pharmaceutical Sciences; - The ability to conceive, design, adapt and carrying out research in Pharmaceutical Sciences respecting the requirements imposed by the standards of academic quality and integrity; - The communication, i.e., to be able to communicate with their peers, the academic community and society in general concerning the respective area of specialization; - Self-learning, i.e., the ability to promote in academic and / or professional context, the technological, social or cultural progress. |

The 3rd cycle in Pharmaceutical Sciences aims to provide an advanced and specialized training that contributes to the consolidation of professional activity, in terms of teaching and research and development in Pharmaceutical Sciences. |
Learning facilities

Scientific research in the field of Health is held at the Health Sciences Research Centre for (CICS), which is a Unit of Research and Development funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). In order to achieve the research objectives, there are two major areas of research: "Hormones and inflammation" and "Biotechnology and biomolecular sciences". This Research Center began in 2003, developing multidisciplinary research in health field. It has PhD researchers with different training areas, ranging from Medicine to Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedicine, from Biology to Biochemistry, among others. The classification of the latest FCT evaluation was Very Good.
