Entry requirements Statics and Continuous Solid Mechanics.
Learning outcomes The curricular unit aims to provide training in the following areas: - mechanical properties of materials;
- geometric characteristics and properties of cross sections;
- calculation of stresses due to 4 internal forces in linear parts;
- yield and rupture criteria for ductile materials;
- safety check in relation to the limit state of resistance;
- energy theorems.

It is intended that students obtain the following skills: a) understand the mechanical behavior of materials, in a fundamental approach to the concept of resistance, stiffness, yielding and rupture;
a) design bars subjected to axial stress inserted in iso/hyperstatic structures;
b) calculate the geometric properties of cross sections;
c) dimension and check the safety of beams subjected to bending, shear and torsion;
d) determine displacements in trusses;
e) calculate the reference stress using the yield criteria.
