Learning outcomes In this course unit it is intended that the student learns to search, organize and disseminate scientific knowledge.
At the end of the course the student should be able to:
- Identify the main sources of scientific information in the field of Health Sciences.
- Perform and interpret the results of a bibliographic search in PubMed.
- Identify the specific characteristics of the different forms of dissemination of scientific knowledge.
- Characterize the steps that a scientific article goes through until its publication.
- State the criteria for choosing a journal to publish a scientific article.
- Identify the ethical principles to be taken into account when publishing a scientific article.
- Demonstrate skills in oral and written communication for the scientific community.
- Demonstrate skills in communicating science to the general public.
Syllabus Search and use of bibliographic references
Sources of scientific information in pharmaceutical sciences and health sciences and bibliographic search
Use of computer tools in information searching, in the handling of scientific data and in its organization
The utility of impact factor and other bibliometric indixes
Scientific writing and course of a scientific article for publication
Dissemination of scientific knowledge in the scientific community and for the general public.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria This UC have two parts, one consists of knowledge acquisition which is done online by using content made available on the UBI platform (moodle) and another one in which students have to use this knowledge through the writing and presentation of a scientific article. This learning components are complemented by participation in CICS seminars.
The classification of this Course Unit will be calculated taking into account the following components and their weights:
1. Written assessment of knowledge - 30%
2. Review article - 60%, where Oral communication - 20% and written communication (publication and communication to the general public) - 40%
3. Assistance to CICS seminars - 10%
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
