Learning outcomes |
This Curricular Unit aims to provide the doctoral student with a set of transversal methodological skills, for the planning, execution, interpretation and presentation of the results of a research work in the area of ??Health Sciences (Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences). At the end of this course unit, the student shall be able to: - select the most appropriate method of quantitative or qualitative research for a given research project. - apply basic epidemiologic principles and concepts in the field of health sciences. - understand the ethical and legislative framework of biomedical research. - search and organize bibliographic references using the appropriate software tools. - prepare a grant application for a research project in health sciences. - identify basic techniques and procedures for the elaboration of a scientific manuscript.

Leadership and management in Health Research. Entrepreneurship, innovation and intellectual property. General principles of ethics in research. Ethics in animal experimentation. Ethics in clinical research. Preparation of applications for research project funding programs. Publication of research papers. Bibliographic research and bibliographic reference management programs.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
Assesment is based on a multiple choice question test and the solving of a practical exercise on bibliography search and on the analysis/discussion of an ethical issue related to human or animal research.
Final score (scale 0.20) is a weighted score = multiple choice question test (weight 80%) + exercise on bibliography search (10%) + analysis/discussion of an ethical issue related to human or animal research (10%).
