Learning outcomes This Curricular Unit aims to promote a comprehensive and integrative perspective of psychological assessment (PA), with the acquisition of knowledge and skills, namely related to the initial interview and assessment in the cognitive, socio-emotional and behavioural domains. At the end, the student should be able to:
1. Describe the psychological assessment process as an integrative and decision-making process; 2. Demonstrate appropriate skills in conducting an initial interview; 3. Select, administer and score PA instruments in the cognitive, socio-emotional and behavioural domains and interpret the results; 4. Critically analyse, integrate and apply contextualised information in action; 5. Reflect on the ethical and deontological implications and responsibilities in the field of PA; 6. Proficiently research and use scientific information related to PA; 7. Communicate clearly and appropriately with different audiences.
Syllabus 1. The process of psychological assessment (PA): aims, phases, general methodological and deontological issues.
2. The first interview of PA: characterization, stages, interviewer skills and techniques.
3. Intelligence assessment: characterization, administration, scoring and interpretation of some intelligence assessment instruments;
4. Socio-emotional and behavioural assessment: characterization, administration, scoring and interpretation of some personality assessment instruments.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The learning activities and pedagogical methodologies include: i) theoretical and theoretical-practical sessions, with exposition and discussion of contents, analysis of actual cases or experiences, practical exercises and tutorial orientation; ii) independent study, with literature review and skills training. Evaluation criteria: i) one group work, focused on the initial psychological assessment interview, with oral and written presentation (20%); ii) two individual assignements on the administration and scoring of two psychological assessment instruments and data interpretation (80%).
