Learning outcomes The overall goal is to promote an integrated understanding of the learning and memory processes. At the end of the CU the student should be able to: (1) describe central phenomena of memory and the theories, models, and constructs underlying them; (2) integrating and applying knowledge in the explanation of real-life problems, applying theories of learning and memory; (3) draw implications for the understanding of the individual as a whole; (4) communicate, clearly, orally and in writing in Portuguese; (5) develop analysis and synthesis skills from documents in Portuguese and in foreign languages (6) develop interpersonal skills by performing cooperative group work; and (7) utilize laboratory resources and the Moodlle platform.
Syllabus I - Habits and other types of learning:
1. orientation response versus habituation response;
2. Motor learning;
3. Perceptual learning.
II - Memory models:
1. Traditional model;
2. Model of processing levels;
3. Integrative model: Working memory (WM); Neuroscience and WM; measure WM; Intelligence and WT; Long-term memory.
III - Memory processes:
1. Codification and transfer of information;
2. Information retrieval;
3. Processes of forgetting;
4. The constructive nature of memory.
