Learning outcomes |
- Acquire basic notions of Geriatrics to understand different aspects of the aging process. - Understand the normal age-related changes in vision. - Understand the visual function anomalies, as well as assessment techniques and tests aimed at the geriatric patients. - Identify the most common ocular pathologies in the elderly. - Identify the most common systemic pathologies that affect the visual system, with particular emphasis on the elderly. - Understand the characteristics of low-vision patients, assess their needs, perform calculations, and advise them on the selection of optical aids.. - Understand aspects of communication in healthcare settings and factors influencing adherence to recommendations or treatment and the psychological effects resulting from aging and low vision.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
To ensure the achievemnt of the proposed objectives and competencies, the following activities and pedagogical methodologies are employed: – Theoretical–practical classes combining theoretical presentations with active student participation, problem-solving exercises, discussion of clinical cases, and completion of assignments, aiming at consolidating and applying the acquired knowledge. – Collection and analysis of data in the context of geriatric screening, promoting the practical application of the content taught. – Observation, whenever possible, of geriatric patients with ocular pathology, allowing direct contact with real clinical situations.
