Learning outcomes Acquire knowledge and skills to help identify the factors of sport excellence and for the development of sports programs in the long term.
Understanding the factors and the complexity of the process of sports development in the short and long term and the specific aspects of the development of sporting talent; To demonstrate the ability to define the necessary evaluation tools and resources for the evaluation of sports performance and long-term sports development (athlete's career) in different sports; To demonstrate the ability to discuss, even in situations of limited information, training content planning and contextual conditions that enable optimal sports performance, according to the age of the practitioners and in diffferent sports.
Syllabus (M1) Theoretical and conceptual assumptions about identifying and developing talent in sport:
(1.1) Introduction to the study of sporting excellence
(1.2) Brief terminological clarifications
(1.3) Some reasons for the ineffectiveness of measures for identifying and developing athletic potential
(M2) Disciplinary approaches to identifying and developing talent in sport:
a. Biological Approach
b. Psychological Approach
c. Sociological Approach
(M3) Sports development models:
(3.1) Beginning of practice, age at which best marks are obtained and respective progression of sports performance
(3.2) The (abstract) value of sports development models
(3.2.1) Traditional and contemporary models
(M4) Programs for the identification and development of talents in different sports

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The evaluation, of the periodic type (AP), contemplates the following aspects:
- 1 written test (40%)
- 1 report (module 4.1) (10%) (invited lecture)
- 1 project proposal in group / individual (50%)

The project proposal should be carried out within the scope of the theme "identification of talents and development of excellence", in a sports modality to choose. Individual or groups of 2 to 3 students (maximum) will be admitted. The work should be delivered in digital presentation format (power point, or similar), scaled to 15 minutes of presentation, followed by discussion if possible (10-15 minutes)

Final grade of AP = (written test score x 0.40) +(report score 1 x 0.10)+ (sport development project x 0.50)
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
