Learning outcomes |
Application of optometric techniques in clinical situations in the real context where students must demonstrate knowledge and clinical communication skills. To develop critical thinking and ability in the decision process of optometric situations that deepen the practical skills acquired in Clinical Practice I and II, in particulary at the level of ocular pathology, contactology, and in the observation and interpretation of complementary diagnostic exams

Syllabus |
Knowledge and practical/clinical skills should be demonstrated, in particular (1) Ability to transmit and explain to patients their physiological or pathological visual condition; (2) Knowing how to evaluate binocular status; (3) Knowing how to evaluate adult patients with heterophoria; (4) Know how to evaluate a patient's colour vision and compare with the standards required by various professional groups; (5) Know how to handle specific instrumentation in the ocular examination; (6) Knowing how to evaluate the anterior segment and its attachments, the tear film, and pupillary reflexes; (7) Know how to handle the slit lamp; (8) Know how to examine the fundus of the eye using direct techniques; (9) Know how to use instrumentation to measure corneal curvature; (10) Know how to evaluate and analyze the visual fields (11) Know how to use the slit lamp in the detection of signs of inflammation in the anterior chamber; (12) Know how to evaluate the visual fields of patients with decreased.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
Teaching methodologies integrating practical laboratory classes for the practice clinical procedures and resolution of exercises to exemplify the calculation of vision parameters necessary to clinical practice; tutorial classes with real patients for supervised application of selected clinical procedures; self-study through reading and exploration of scientific and clinical articles. Evaluation using practical tests of clinical procedures in a laboratory environment and clinical context with real patients. The clinical practice components will be assessed, as far as possible, using the OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) and ISCE (Integrated structured clinical examination) methodologies.
