Learning outcomes The main goals of this course unit are:

- Learn how to interface with the real world

- Explore how to drive systems

- Study how to acquire information methods

- Understand how to process information

At the end of this course the student should be able to:

- Understand how the interface between systems operate

- Adapt and propose new solutions for data acquisition

- Implement control methods in unconventional actuators

- Adapt methodologies for signal conditioning in the acquisition of information

- Search in the scientific literature solutions in his field of application
Syllabus 1. Basic concepts of instrumentation: filtering, amplification and signal conversion

2. Sensorial techniques and their principles of operation: temperature, acceleration, capacitive sensors, optical sensors, pressure sensors

3. Practical issues to be addressed in the acquisition of physical quantities: noise, insulation, protection

4. Signal processing: amplification, filtering, analog and digital methods

5. Driving methodologies and control: alloys with shape retention capacity, magnetic actuators, capacitive actuators, piezoelectric actuators

6. Energy Harvest: Microbial Fuel cells; Biologival bateries, Electromagnetic generators (vibration, small displacements).
