Learning outcomes	To analyze the changes in the area of the education in Western countries and in the Portuguese society. To provide the contact with the subjects of research in this field that they allow one better understanding of the educative processes, in a micro and macro sociological perspective. - Be able to understand and to analyze the problems and contradictions of the education system in the Portuguese society, in a compared perspective, and to relate them with the modernization process in Portugal. -Be able to identify the main changes and continuities which have taken place in the education in Portugal, especially after the 25 of April of 1974. -Be able to analyze subjects and results of the research in the area of the sociology of the education. -Be able to participate in the lessons and to contribute for the collective debate.
