Learning outcomes At the end of this COURSE the student should be able to:

- Recognize the cell as the morphological and functional unit of living things
- Know the structure and function of the main organelles of cells
- Know the structure and functions of the cytoplasmic membrane
- Know the structure and functions of the nucleus of the eukaryotic cell
- Recognise the importance of gene expression and the regulation of this process
- Meet the major metabolic pathways and cellular signaling
- Recognise the importance of cell cycle regulation
- Handle basic laboratory equipment
- Read and understand scientific documents
- Draw up an experimental protocol
- Recognize its limitations and the need to maintain updated their skills, by paying special attention to the self-learning of new knowledge based on scientific evidence available
- Be able to make oral presentations to different target audiences

5. The process of cell signaling

Practical program of the UC

- Basic rules of safety in the laboratory.
- Obtaining, observation and manipulation of the structure of proteins and nucleic acids using a specific software (LabView Web).
- Determination of ATPsintetase activity.
- Isolation and culture of cells obtained from biopsies.
- Sample preparation and visualization of cellular components by confocal microscopy.
- Obtaining, preparation and analysis of histological sections by light microscopy.
