Learning outcomes	Objectives: - To understand the dynamics of the opening up and competitive internationalization of the Portuguese economy; - To operationalize, by applying to the Portuguese and European Union economies, concepts acquired in other curricular units; and - To enable the student to search for and deal with statistical data on the Portuguese and European Union economies. Competences: - Use of economic theory to analyze economic policies and their results; - Reading and understanding technical reports and economic studies; and - Using digital libraries and artificial intelligence tools ethically. Sustainable Development Goals: The curricular unit aims to contribute to the training of students capable of meeting the targets of SDG 8 - Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all; and SDG 9 - Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria	In theoretical-practical classes will be used case studies, international and national reports, scientific articles, dissemination articles, and opinion articles in newspapers, magazines, and specialized books, about the national and international economic reality. The evaluation criteria include: (1) Written test: 50% of the final grade of the teaching and learning period; (2) Report on a Study by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation (FFMS): 25% of the final grade of the teaching and learning period; and (3) Presentation + Discussion of the Report: 25% of the final grade of the teaching and learning period.
