Mechanics and Waves

Code 14639
Year 1
Semester S2
ECTS Credits 6
Workload T(30H)/TP(30H)
Scientific area Physics
Entry requirements Domain of the essential contents of Physics that are contained in several manuals destined to the high school education. Knowledge of elementary mathematical calculus.
Learning outcomes The objective of the Curricular Unit is that students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of Physics useful to Engineering in the field of classical mechanics including the study of waves and vibrations.
At the end of the Course the student should be able to analyze, understand and describe mathematically some elementary mechanics, waves and vibrations phenomena. Consequently they will be able to apply the basic principles of classical mechanics in the description and discussion of various phenomena involving Newtonian mechanics.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Theoretical classes (T) with oral exposure of the topics of the subjects, using audio-visual media, complemented with a tutorial regime associated with self-learning and study accompanied by students. And theoretical-practical (TP) problem solving classes.
Final evaluation of the Curricular Unit will consist of two components, one punctual (Written test) and the other continuous:
.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
