Learning outcomes Goals: to study the general characteristics of Urban Planning in Portugal within the European context.
Skills:
1. To understand urban planning proposals and analyse their potential and challenges.
2. To understand the main Urban Planning instruments, their objectives and content, considering different scales of intervention — national, regional, intermunicipal and municipal.
3. To understand the types of land use and the role of urban areas in comparison with rural spaces, with regard to building and urbanisation processes.
4. To understand emerging themes in Urban Planning (such as housing, soft mobility, territorial resilience, and digital cities) within the context of Civil Engineering.

2. URBAN PLANNING SYSTEM IN PORTUGAL

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria 1. Frequency/Written Test (50%, 10 out of 20).
This will assess whether students have assimilated the taught material and acquired the defined competencies. The test will have a theoretical and a practical component on the program content and the analysis of municipal plans developed in the classroom.

2. Practical work with oral presentation in the classroom and report (50%, 10 out of 20).
A practical assignment will be carried out, concerning the analysis of a subdivision and urbanization works, with the calculation of urban planning indices and parameters, to verify its compliance with the Municipal Master Plan and other technical requirements.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
