Strength of Materials II

Code 14654
Year 3
Semester S1
ECTS Credits 6
Workload PL(30H)/T(30H)
Scientific area Mechanics and Structures
Entry requirements Statics and Continuous Solid Mechanics.
Learning outcomes The curricular unit aims to provide training in the following areas:
- Interaction between forces;
- Deviated compound flexion; - Deformation in structural elements (integration of the elastic line and use of energy theorems);
- Stability of compressed elements with the notion of imperfections and their effect, support conditions, and distinction between them;
- Hyperstatic beams;
- Models of non-elastic materials; Plastic bending of beams.
Syllabus 1 - Linear members subjected to interacting forces (M+V+T or N+T);
2 - Linear members subjected to axial force and bending moment (N+M);
3 - Deformation in structural elements (integration of the elastic line and energy theorems);
4 - Stability of structural elements against buckling;
5 - Statically indeterminate beams;
6 - Elastoplastic bending of beams.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Access to an exam with a positive grade for the set of work completed throughout the semester (more than eight projects), to which experimental test reports are added. Some of the work will be completed or begun in PL classes.

Students pass the exam with a CF score > 10.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
