Scientific area Planning and Urbanism
Entry requirements Knowledge of topography concepts.
Learning outcomes To introduce and develop aspects related to communication routes, especially roads, providing to students the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills needed to perform analysis and selection of road location, analysis of road traffic conditions and road project design.
Competencies:
(a) Understanding constraints and criteria for the analysis and selection of road location.
(b) Solid knowledge of traffic flow analysis, in particular capacity and level-of-service.
(c) Solid knowledge of theoretical and practical principles of road design (horizontal design, vertical design and crosssection profile).
(d) Recognition of basic aspects related to earthworks and road drainage.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria This semester course consists of 75 hours of contact with the teaching team, 83 hours of student autonomous work and 10 hours for evaluation (total: 168 hours). The course is credited with 6 ECTS. The course is structured with theoretical classes – T (exposition of the subjects of the course and presentation of small practical examples) and theoretical-practical classes – TP (application of theoretical concepts to solve practical problems and develop a road project). The evaluation is carried out in two phases, continuous evaluation and exam, allowing the student to dispense the exam if he/she approves in the continuous evaluation. The continuous evaluation includes test(s) (65%), practical works (30%) and attendance and participation (5%). The evaluation under examination includes a test (70%) and practical works (30%).
