Learning outcomes It is intended that student: understands the importance of communication in the social construction of reality. List proposals for defining communication and media. Understand the dynamics of the Communication/Media/Society relationship and have a sociological perspective on communication. Understand the historical path and main theoretical and methodological arguments of the various Communication Schools of Thought. Thus, we intend to stimulate the student's ability to argue, to understand the issues under analysis, within the stated theoretical framework, considered essential for the progress of their knowledge. We aim to adopt a reflective and critical attitude towards the way we operate in the areas of communication. Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria We will use an immersive and reflective teaching-learning method;
1. Directly involving students in the theoretical discussion process. We model the organization of contact sessions in such a way as to involve the active participation of students, which is within their competence; know how to debate topics; insert the theory under debate into the general framework of the discussion of the sociology of communication (establishing points of contact and contact with other authors/currents) and reflect on the limitations of the theoretical framework under debate; exemplify and problematize the theoretical proposals under discussion, using concepts as interpretive instruments of reality.
2. Reflective analysis - students, in a class, will have a prototype of a written test where they must demonstrate interpretation and reasoning skills regarding the theories given throughout the semester.
3. students must present written and oral work.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
