The UC "Seminar on Forms and Dynamics of the City" proposes a reflection on the contemporary city in light of the societal transformations in the course. It is intended to explore the multiple facets of the urban, framed in its historical, territorial, social, cultural, economic, and political dimensions. Identify challenges, analyze processes and practices, and understand their impact on new architectures and ways of living and planning and managing urban space. It is also proposed that future scenarios of urban transformation be speculated in a sustained way. A critical and questioning approach to producing knowledge and models is assumed. Innovative, interdisciplinary and relevant research is promoted. Based on these objectives, the students are intended to i) identify problems and critically reflect on contemporary urban complexity and ii) build an integrated approach to produce practical knowledge, aiming at a final academic and socially relevant work.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
The UC corresponds to 1 semester, involving 21 hours of contact. The approval of this curricular unit gives the student 7.5 ECTS. The classes follow a theoretical-practical model, in which the contents will be exposed by texts, images, films, etc., which launch themes in each session, so that the students can elaborate a critical reflection that boosts the subjects under analysis. The final session will consist of an exploratory walk in the city, raising new debates and reflections, discussing methodologies of approach to the urban and pointing out paths for future investigations/speculations, to be published in the final article. The evaluation is made by the performance of the students in the sessions (40%) and by the realization of a scientific article on one of the problems presented (60%), in which the theme should be clearly defined and delimited.
