Aircraft Drawing

Code 15071
Year 1
Semester S1
ECTS Credits 6
Workload TP(60H)
Scientific area Aeronautics and Astronautics
Entry requirements There is no formal requirements.
Learning outcomes Enable students to implement Technical Drawing knowledge through a Computer Aided Design (CAD) computer application, using SOLIDWORKS software as a tool.
After attending this Curricular Unit, the student must:
- Have grasped the fundamental concepts of Technical Drawing;
- Be able to read and correctly interpret a technical drawing;
- Be prepared to create schemes, drawings and 3D models necessary for the design of new products,
equipment and aircraft.
- Being able, once guided by a teacher in the scientific area of ??Aeronautical Engineering, to develop the ability to create CAD models of aircraft, namely wing profiles, surfaces
aerodynamics, fairings and fuselage bodies.
Syllabus The Technical Drawing:
- Graphic communication;
- Representation modes;
- Technical Drawing in the various phases of a project.
Computer-aided Technical Drawing (CAD):
- Evolution of CAD - applications;
- Equipment.
Orthogonal Projections
a) Concepts:
- Classification;
- Orthogonal projections: views on the projection cube (multiple views);
- Types of lines.
b) View selection:
- Necessary and sufficient views;
- Partial, interrupted and auxiliary views;
- Conventional and simplified representations.
c)Reading projections.
Quick Perspectives of Geometric Solids:
- Choice of position;
- Construction methods;
- Circumference perspective.
Quotation
- Quotation of special representations;
- Fundamental aspects;
Cuts and Sections
Tool specifics (SolidWorks):
- Modeling of solids and surfaces;
- Assembly of sets;
- Representation of projections.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Knowledge is transmitted through teaching through theoretical exposition of concepts, examples of application exercises and problem solving in the classroom and outside the classroom.
The teaching methodology is based on practical theoretical classes where fundamental concepts are presented
through slides and discussed before the teacher presents the resolution of examples of application exercises. Students then solve exercises proposed in class and later have access to notes on their resolution.
The evaluation of the teaching-learning process throughout teaching activities, on a scale of 0 to 20 values, results from the application of the expression: AV= 0.8*TP1+0.2*TP2, where: TP1 is a practical drawing test in SolidWorks and TP2 is a practical test of creating sketches, by hand, in perspective from orthogonal views of an object.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
