Learning outcomes |
- Understanding architecture as an experimental activity, promoting the development of a design project as a work of synthesis, integrating various factors - place, program, form, scale, language, etc. - resolved through drawing and three-dimensional models. These are privileged tools for analysing, representing, and stimulating the creative act. - Carrying out design exercises at different scales, valuing critical thinking, the student's ability to choose, rigorous action, conception and formal consistency in the act of designing, at the same time as valuing the structuring "idea". - Always take into account existing urban planning constraints and the applicable regulatory frameworks, namely: the Municipal Master Plan; the General Regulations for Urban Buildings (RGEU); Accessibility; Fire Safety. - Developing working skills in class, in a studio environment, stimulating exchanges of opinion during presentations of work.

Syllabus |
- To research and analyse a real urban context and identify existing public facilities in Covilhã. - Design an architectural project for a university teaching facility - School of Architecture - integrated into a real urban context and involving fundamental architectural principles such as: architectural language; integration and relationship with the surroundings; technical feasibility, sustainable dimension of the problem; etc. - Integrate a built pre-existence into the project to be carried out, which may be the object of architectural rehabilitation or simply integrated as a physical object of spatial organization. - Understand and resolve the architectural structure/form for a building with very specific uses, as a result of multiple demands (urban, functional, aesthetic, symbolic, productive, climatic, communicational, etc.).

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
Pedagogy will focus on three interrelated components:
- theoretical classes on themes and contents of the program, and framing of the different phases of the practical project exercises.
- practical architectural design exercises defined in the curriculum program and in the statements for the semester, with stages of increasing level of complexity, according to the predefined objectives;
- critical monitoring classes of the different phases of practical project exercises - presentation and critical discussion in class and tutorial follow-up.
Evaluation:
- Continuous evaluation with communication of qualitative notes assigned at the end of each phase of the project and after discussion and delivery of the works;
- At the end of the semester, the work produced will be evaluated and a final grade will be given to all the students who have taken part in this program.
