Year 1
Semester S1
ECTS Credits 6
Workload PL(30H)/T(30H)
Scientific area Construction
Entry requirements N.A.
Learning outcomes To provide advanced and multidisciplinary training, based on qualitative, quantitative, experimental, theoretical, and field applied methodologies and approaches, regarding the challenges relevant to infrastructure, sustainability and resilience, in its broadest sense, contemplating environmental, economic and social factors, namely:
a) Mastery of the multidisciplinary challenges related to infrastructures and sustainability in different geographical scales and scenarios;
b) Mastering concepts of ecology and climate change; and economic and life cycle concepts; applied to resource assessment, design and construction of infrastructures;
c) Mastery of methodologies, qualitative and quantitative approaches, for the sustainability and resilience of infrastructures;
d) Understanding of numerical models used to integrate sustainability and resilience concepts in infrastructures;
Understanding of emerging technologies related to infrastructures, resilience and sustainable development;
Syllabus 1. Multidisciplinary domains and critical factors in the planning, designing and constructing of sustainable and resilient infrastructures in specific contexts.
2. Ecology, climate change, economic and life cycle concepts applied to resource assessment, design, and infrastructure construction.
3. Methodologies, qualitative and quantitative approaches (information technology, life cycle analysis, multi-criteria decision-making methods) for sustainability and infrastructure resilience.
4. Emerging technologies (waste recycling and valorisation, CO2 capture and utilisation, and nanotechnologies) related to infrastructures, resilience and sustainable development.
Main Bibliography Supporting texts for the study are available online through the Moodle and MsTeams platforms: summaries of state-of-the-art, selected supporting texts, namely technical-scientific articles, doctoral and master theses, standards and recommendations.
Proceedings of National Meetings and International Conference on Sustainability in Construction and Civil Engineering.
Special issues in scientific journals are in "Infrastructures, Sustainability and Resilience".
Specialised software with methodologies, qualitative and quantitative approaches (information technologies, life cycle analysis, multi-criteria decision-making methods) for application in solving sustainability and resilience problems of infrastructures.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
