Learning outcomes 1) To obtain knowledge in what concerns the following itens: Equipment performance, failure and fault, failure modes, failure roots, reliability and their steps, maintenability, failure ratios, and repair ratios.
2) To develop studies and skills related to the Reliability Centred Maintenance, as well as to the statistical and probabilistic distributions, and reliability evaluation.
3) To study all aspects concerning reliability and maintenability international standardization, for practical applications.
4) To stimulate the critical thinking.
Syllabus 1) Maintenance types and models. Corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, predictive maintence, and ameliorative maintenance. Total Productive Maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Risk Based Maintenance, Streamlined Reliability Centered Maintenance, Simplified Reliability Centered Maintenance, Operator Driven Maintenance, and Proactive Maintenance.
2) Maintenance Statistics: Binomial, Hipergeometric, Poisson, Normal or Gauss, lognormal, Exponential, Bivariable, Gama, Qui-square, Fisher, Student and Weibull laws.
3) Reliability. Concepts, failure types, inherent and external reliability, failure mode and effect analysis, lyfe cycle, RAMS, reliability calculus, lyfe cycle function, reliability of systems, case studies. RCM
4) Maintenability. Concepts, mean times, availability, standardization, inspections, and case studies.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria 1) Continuous assessment: written report and written test, with a final grade of at least 10 (ten).
2) Assessment by final exam: final exam and a written report, with a minimum final grade of 10 (ten).
3) Formulas for calculating the final grade:
Continuous evaluation:
NF (final grade) = [N1 (report grade at least 10) x 0.60 + N2 (test grade at least 8) x 0.40]
Assessment by final exam:
NF (final grade) = [NE (final exam grade) x 0.40 + NT (report gradeat least 10) x0.60]
Frequency condition: completion of the report with a minimum final classification of 10 (ten) values and a test grade with a minimum final classification of 8 (eight) and 50% of class attendance.
