Learning outcomes This curricular unit is an introduction to ethics, with the aim of presenting the main ethical theories of western thought, and fostering critical reflection and the ability to make informed decisions,
At the end of the curricular unit the student is expected to be able to: (i) circumscribe the scope of ethics; (ii) discuss the relationship between ethics, politics and law; (iii) identify different types of ethics and describe their respective characteristics; take a stand in relation to questions of ethical nature.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The lectures will consist of oral presentations and multimedia and interactive presentations of the contents of the course. A pedagogical-didactic methodology of initial exposition will be adopted, followed by commented reading of previously shared fundamental texts and critical discussion.

Assessment consists of two written tests and an oral test.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
