The question "What is culture?" does not have to demand an immediate answer; on the contrary, it invites us to assume from the start the inquiring bid in which the question is played. In this sense, this course aims to stimulate the practice of philosophical questioning, through a fundamental theme of philosophy. At the end of the UC, the student should be able to: (i) identify issues concerning culture; (ii) make explicit the fundamental elements of the studied perspectives; (iii) discuss answers to the question "What is culture?"; (iv) problematize the notion of culture.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
Methodologically, the unit is taught through a pluralistic approach to the fundamental philosophical question—What is Culture?—with each teacher introducing a perspective based on specific bibliographic references. The discussion progresses according to the chronological order of the topics. Each module requires prior reading of the corresponding bibliographic reference, with the weekly tutorial hour (TH) dedicated to this purpose.
