Learning outcomes This course unit aims to teach the basic knowledge to classify the main types of reactions in organic chemistry and its understanding through its mechanism. At the end of the course unit the student should be able to combine the basic knowledge learned in the course unit with an adequate bibliographic support, in order to predict and classify the chemical behavior of compounds belonging to the main functional groups. It aims also to encourage literature research and reading habits, thus stimulating self-learning in order to solve the proposed problems and to develop a seminar about a studied funtional group in Organic Chemistry (OC).

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Oral presentation of the subject with the help of a board and slides, with great student-teacher interactivity, promoting debate between students and teacher in order to guarantee participation and interest in the subjects taught. In addition to practical laboratory classes, where students carry out the synthesis of some organic compounds, there will also be classes to solve practical exercises related to the knowledge acquired during theoretical classes. Students are also asked to develop a seminar on a functional group studied. During classes, the use of cell phones, tablets, computers, smartwatches or similar devices for purposes other than teaching/learning is prohibited. Improper use will result in absence from the respective class. Any attempt to cheat on assignments or assessments results in the student being considered not admitted.
