Learning outcomes |
At the end of the course unit the student must: - Know how are constituted, and main functions of biomolecules. - Know which systems in our body control the pH. - Realize what enzymes and enzymatic processes are. - You should know what vitamins are and distinguish between water soluble and fat soluble vitamins.

Syllabus |
(1) history of biochemistry (2) Chemical bonds (molecules, types of bonds, biological systems, water molecule-functional importance in biological systems), (3) chemical equilibrium, (4) regulation of human pH, (5) major functional groups of interest in eukaryotic cell biomolecules, (6) structure and functional properties of biomolecules (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, vitamins and carbohydrates).
