Learning outcomes The main goal of this course unit is learning the chemical synthesis of organic molecules using the retrosynthesis approach and a set of strategies driving to a greater efficacy in terms of yield and selectivity, in the obtainment of the final product.
By the end of this course unit, the student will be able to plan the best strategies for an efficient organic synthesis of organic molecules with biological activity using a retrosynthetic approach. Confronted with a concrete practical problem on preparing a molecule, the student will have the ability to analyze and consider the various plausible hypotheses, and among these, to choose the best solution in terms of efficiency, economical and easy implementation, depending on the available material means. Students will have developed their laboratory skills and spectroscopic laboratory characterization of chemical compounds knowledge.
Syllabus Synthesis of organic chemical compounds by retrosynthesis. The disconnection approach.
Introduction to retrosynthesis: target molecule, synthon, equivalent synthon, controle synthon, functional group interconversion and functional group addition.
One or more group disconnection. Illogical disconnection.
Synthesis organic strategies: general concepts, selectivity and use of protection groups.
Strategic examples for the synthesis of one or more functional groups, acyclic, cyclic and heterocyclic compounds and/or reactions classes.
