Learning outcomes To complement the studies in Organic Chemistry. To study the concept of protecting group. To analyze heterocyclic compounds. To apply the concept of retrosynthesis. To acquire knowledge about the molecular basis of drug discovery, design, development and action.
At the end of this course unit the student should be able to: realize that it is possible perform certain reactions using protecting groups. know the methods of analysis of molecules from the target molecule and able to search for the simpler molecules for the synthesis. Identify the different heterocyclic compounds. apply current strategies for the discovery and development of leads. predict the effects of the chemical characteristics of drugs in their pharmacokinetics. evaluate and interpret structureactivity relationships. predict drug interactions with biological targets and the underlying molecular mechanisms.
